NSF Award: National I-Corps - National I-Corps

Shane Transue and Min-Hyung Choi have been awarded an NSF award for their research into respiratory analysis using thermal imaging, titled Non-contact Remote Breathing Analysis through Visualization of Thermal and CO2 Flow.

Shane Transue, Sayed Mohsin Reza, Ann C. Halbower and Min-Hyung Choi got best paper award for the paper titled as Behavioral Analysis of Turbulent Exhale Flows in IEEE Conference on Biomedical and Health Informatics 2018 (IEEE BHI 2018), Las Vegas, Navada, USA.

ICONI 2017 Outstanding Paper Award

Shane Transue, Yi Li, Nak-Jun Sung, Yoo-Joo Choi, Min Hong and Min-Hyung Choi got outstanding paper award for the paper titled as Coherent Behavior with Level-of-detail in Cloth Simulation in 9th International Conference on Internet Multimedia, Image Processing, HCI and Intelligent Systems 2017.

GAANN Fellowship Award

PhD candidate Breawn Schoun has been awarded the GAANN fellowship through the Department of Education for an interdisciplinary doctorate within Big Data Science and Engineering in coordination with Dr. Farnoush and the UCD Big Data Lab. The primary research focus of this award is to explore immersive interaction in partially and fully virtual environments, using data-driven approaches to generate realistic virtual environments.

Comcast Media and Technology Center

In collaboration with the UCD Graphics Laboratory, co-directors Dr. Choi and Dr. Brian DeLevie have partnered with Comcast to open the Comcast Media and Technology Center, a $5 million, 1900 square-foot research, art, and technology center within the Tivoli Student Union. Based on cooperation between the College of Arts & media and the College of Engineering and Applied science, this research-based center for innovation provides a new opportunity to integrate art and science to develop new technologies in animation, robotics, physical simulation, augmented/virtual reality, and game design. Industry Collaboration with Dogpack Studios

The UCD Graphics Lab has entered an industry collaboration with Dogpack Studios for animation and game development for new game IPs. This collaboration also provides current UC Denver computer science students with the opportunity to work within the game industry to develop next-generation games in coordination with the UCD Graphics Lab.

NSF Grant

In coordination with the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Ann Halbower MD, Children's Hospital Colorado, and the Mobile and Networked Systems (MNS) Lab, the team has received a three year NSF grant to study automated respiratory monitoring systems. This includes automated chest deformation reconstruction for tidal volume estimation Chase 2016 Conference Paper, thermal imaging for exhale reconstruction, and advances in wireless imaging.

GAANN Fellowship Award

PhD candidate Shane Transue of the UCD Graphics Lab has been awarded the GAANN fellowship through the Department of Education for an interdisciplinary doctorate within Big Data Science and Engineering in coordination with Dr. Farnoush and the UCD Big Data Lab. The primary research focus of this award is to explore geometric contributions within continuum mechanics for data-driven physical simulations.
