GAANN Fellowship Award

PhD candidate Breawn Schoun has been awarded the GAANN fellowship through the Department of Education for an interdisciplinary doctorate within Big Data Science and Engineering in coordination with Dr. Farnoush and the UCD Big Data Lab. The primary research focus of this award is to explore immersive interaction in partially and fully virtual environments, using data-driven approaches to generate realistic virtual environments.

Comcast Media and Technology Center

In collaboration with the UCD Graphics Laboratory, co-directors Dr. Choi and Dr. Brian DeLevie have partnered with Comcast to open the Comcast Media and Technology Center, a $5 million, 1900 square-foot research, art, and technology center within the Tivoli Student Union. Based on cooperation between the College of Arts & media and the College of Engineering and Applied science, this research-based center for innovation provides a new opportunity to integrate art and science to develop new technologies in animation, robotics, physical simulation, augmented/virtual reality, and game design. Industry Collaboration with Dogpack Studios

The UCD Graphics Lab has entered an industry collaboration with Dogpack Studios for animation and game development for new game IPs. This collaboration also provides current UC Denver computer science students with the opportunity to work within the game industry to develop next-generation games in coordination with the UCD Graphics Lab.

NSF Grant

In coordination with the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Ann Halbower MD, Children's Hospital Colorado, and the Mobile and Networked Systems (MNS) Lab, the team has received a three year NSF grant to study automated respiratory monitoring systems. This includes automated chest deformation reconstruction for tidal volume estimation Chase 2016 Conference Paper, thermal imaging for exhale reconstruction, and advances in wireless imaging.
